Dr Joel Mejia

Dr. Carlos Joel Mejia‑Olivares is a researcher in oceanography and marine renewable energy, with a focus on tidal‑stream and tidal‑range energy assessment. He is a multi-disciplinary researcher with experience in many areas. 

In 2019, Dr Joel Mejia completed his PhD at the University of Southampton. He currently serves as a Research Fellow visitor on an ad-hoc basis at the prestigious National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, where he is invited several times a year to deliver lectures on his specialist subject. 

Over the past 25 years, Dr Mejia has cultivated a diverse skill set through senior management roles in various international companies, as well as through his work as a university lecturer and researcher. He brings over 15 years of experience in supervising, guiding, and supporting students with their academic projects in both the UK and Mexico. 

His collaborative research efforts have included partnerships with leading institutions such as the University of Bangor, the University of Southampton, the University of Edinburgh, and more recently, the University of Huddersfield, all of which have contributed to the continued development of his research expertise. 

Dr Mejia is deeply passionate about empowering university students to reach their full potential, enhance their academic research capabilities, and successfully achieve their academic goals.
